Hello everyone! I want to discuss some much needed changes in our sessions, but first, I want to thank everyone for the attendance and support they have shown which have made these changes necessary.
Our SEOwS sessions have resumed but they have changed to what I hope, is a better way to allow you to attend and benefit, without it taking as long for you to get a chance to speak. Some of you have noticed that the sessions are being limited to 6, that includes me so there will only be five participants allowed to attend the session. This will facilitate the speed at which we can move along and give everyone a timely chance to speak.
Please do not worry about not getting into the session because if the first scheduled session is full, I am willing to give a second, repeat session for another five members if you will message me here at SpeakAlley before the current session ends and let me know that you want to attend a SEOwS session. Please do not wait until the session is over to let me know as that could be too late. I cannot promise that I can do this every day, but I will try.
I welcome and appreciate the support that all of you give me by wanting to be in the sessions but since they will be available for you to view live on the practice page and space is very limited in the session, I must ask that if you do not wish to speak, that you leave the space in the sessions for participants. Thank you! You are welcome to write about the pictures and discussion topics from the sessions on the POSTS page as well so that we can give you feedback in this way as well.
For all of you preparing for an exam, or those who feel they want to try their hand at writing, which will also help them in speaking, we will start devoting some of the session days to learning from essays that you post here. Please see the calendar on the CHAT page for details by clicking on the blue information box. (Fyi-this post is approx. 411 words long.)
Don't forget to view the day's regular session video on the SpeakAlley blog, as well as regular postings of previous videos. These will help with vocabulary and test questions ideas as well as give help on pronunciation.
Hello all! In today's session, we discussed a relevant topic for today's society, that of respect-or lack of it-of our parents, specifically elderly parents. This idea may have different cultural applications, but it is still a topic that concerns the global family of mankind. After we have had a chance to finish going over this essay, please check the blog for the finished commentary on this subject.
I want to personally thank those that joined me today; these sessions are specifically for those writing essays that are posted on this site and I want to thank them for their hard work and humble willingness to allow all of us to learn from their efforts.
Hello Everyone! These past few weeks, and a few more to come, are very busy for me but they should quiet down after that and hopefully settle into a routine again; I truly appreciate everyone's patience with me on these. I want to mention a few changes and thoughts here:
First, I want to commend all those who choose to post essays, or even those who write even just a paragraph or two to further their learning. I enjoy reading everyone's perspective. We have spoken before on the topic of going over essays in the sessions and I look forward to starting these! When I first offered to go over the essays that you write and give feedback for them, I didn't expect to see so many wonderful ideas put down in print and I quickly became a bit overwhelmed. (My other issues add up to impact me this way.) These past weeks I have been thoroughly considering how I can best help all of you, take care of other matters but also take care of my health which is so very unpredictable-a fact that brings me much frustration! My only feasible solution was to devote scheduled Session time to going over these essays. Unfortunately, out of necessity, I will be limiting the attendees in these sessions to those that are our regular Session supporters who are also writing essays and allow me to use these in the scheduled Sessions. To further explain this, I will also be limiting these requirements to those that have written a full essay, not just a paragraph or two, although I will still comment on these shorter versions in the posts. Thank you to all who share by writing!
Another matter that I want to address is the use of Google+ profile pics. When you log into a practice session, your Google+ picture is displayed, not your SpeakAlley profile picture. When I see people logged into sessions, I look for those that are on here most, and join those sessions (when I am able, as most of you know, we are in very different time zones). This is because these are the people most devoted to their learning process here and I want to help as much as I can-I simply cannot help everyone like this as I am only one person and this is the only way that I know to prioritize my help. With this all being said, I want to encourage everyone to please load a profile picture onto your Google+ account (at least your gmail, which should show up as well) so that I can recognize you. I do often see you even when I cannot join you and I remember those who I see here the most in sessions for later when I can join. I truly enjoy visiting and getting to know all of you!
NOTE: When you see me in a session for only two or three, I am the one learning. Please do not take offense at my need for this as well. Sometimes, what I am learning is how to help others in their learning process, other times, it is on a non-English language topic, so please respect my need for this. Thank you.
Hello Everyone! I have been taking some much needed time off and I want to thank everyone for their patience with me on that! I would also like to encourage everyone to please make sure that the Google Plus account that you use here on SpeakAlley.com is using an actual picture or photograph for the profile pic. I will soon mention why...
Hello everyone, please see the calendar for the changes.
Try to post some sentences in the comments section under the photograph from the last session using the things that we discussed today (it is still today for me). I will make sure and look for them! Here is the photograph: https://www.speakalley.com/microposts/312
Take care everyone! Talk to you soon!
Hello everyone! I am sorry, but I have to cancel the next session. I will change the calendar to reflect this. Please remember that if you ever have a question about whether a session will be held or not, always check the calendar as this is the most reliable source. If I am able to join an informal session later (please remember the time difference), I will do so, if there is space in the group to allow it. I am not sure if I will be able to, as some of you know, but I will always try! Take care everyone!
I want to invite everyone to feel free to comment or post further questions about the photographs used in the sessions. I want to let everyone know that if there is an item in the photo that you want to know how to say the English name of, please describe the item and its location I will respond. Thanks for participating!
